Christmas Yard Award

The Christmas Yard Award aims to recognize and reward residents who demonstrate exceptional effort in maintaining their property’s curb appeal during the Holiday Season, thereby enhancing the overall appearance and value of our community.

The Christmas Yard Award nominations are due by December 12 and the winner will be announced December 29.

Nominations for 2024 Christmas Yard Award have closed. Check back on December 29 for the winner announcement.

Eligibility:

  1. Members of the Landscape Committee are not eligible.
  2. A resident cannot win more than once in a calendar year.

Selection Criteria: (Click on the arrow for more information)

Creativity and Originality
  • Uniqueness: Does the display feature original themes, ideas, or decorations that stand out from others?
  • Innovation: How creative are the decorating choices, such as using unconventional materials or incorporating modern design elements?
Theme Consistency
  • Coherence: Is there a clear theme or concept that ties all elements of the display together (e.g., winter wonderland, vintage Christmas, etc.)?
  • Execution: Does the theme manifest across all aspects of the display (lights, decorations, props, etc.)?

Aesthetic Appeal
  • Visual Balance: Is the overall look well-organized with balanced colors, shapes, and textures?
  • Visual Impact: Does the display grab attention in a positive way, whether day or night?
Use of Lighting
  • Creativity: How creatively are lights used in the display (e.g., synchronized light shows, ambient lighting, etc.)?
  • Coverage: Are the lights strategically placed to highlight key elements without overwhelming the overall effect?
Attention to Detail
  • Fine Touches: Are small details thoughtfully included, such as garlands, wreaths, or hidden treasures?
  • Quality of Decorations: Is the decoration neat, tidy, and well-maintained?
Use of Space
  • Effective Space Utilization: How well is the available space used, including windows, front yard, porch, and entryway?
  • Flow and Accessibility: Does the display invite people in, or feel open and accessible without overcrowding?
Family-Friendly Appeal

Wholesome Themes: Are the decorations suitable for a wide audience and culturally sensitive?

  • Festivity: Does the display capture the festive, joyful essence of the holiday season?
  • Seasonal Relevance: Are the decorations clearly tied to the specific holiday or season being celebrated (Christmas, Hanukkah, etc.)?
Neighbor Consideration
  • Respect for Neighbors: Does the display show consideration for surrounding homes (e.g., not too bright or noisy)?
  • Community Spirit: Does the display foster a sense of community or holiday cheer for the neighborhood?

Judging Process:

  1. Nominations will be submitted via the Christmas Yard Award form below. Submissions are due by December 12.
  2. The Landscape Committee will conduct inspections from the nominations during the last week of December and the best-decorated home for the holiday season will be awarded December 29.
  3. The committee will select one winner based on the established criteria.

Award:

  1. The winning yard will have a “Christmas Yard Award” sign placed in the yard.
  2. The winner will be featured on the community website and Facebook page.
  3. The winner will receive a gift card or other prize as determined by the City.
